The Information and Communication Technology/Business Process Outsourcing (ICT/BPO) sector of the Matching Grant facility has benefited over 45 companies with over 2,500 beneficiries both directly and indirectly. Of these beneficiaries, 30% are women. These companies have accessed funding to implement various business aspects such as ISO certification, prototype development, branding /marketing, market research and product development. This sector alone has accessed funding to the tune USD 1.5 million.
The sector covers all Ugandan registered companies that are information technology and communication oriented. Activities considered include Software (development, distribution, integrations, administration & ERPs), Infrastructure (networks, hardware, maintenance and consultancy), ICT Consultancy and Data Management. Businesses involved in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in any field e.g. Human Resource, Legal, Finance, IT and Business consulting are also considered under this sector. Others include ICT Sector Associations.
With MGF support, the capacity of several ICT companies has been enhanced and therefore they have been able to increase their export potential. In 2016, the Uganda IT/ITES Export Directory 2016, produced by NITA indicated 14 out of 30 IT/ITES Exporters in Uganda were MGF beneficiaries.
In addition, some of the concepts supported by MGF were selected to compete in the international mobile app concept competition in Nairobi and Washington DC and they were among the top 5 best concepts.
Those who have accessed the MGF support expressed enormous appreciation for it has enabled many of their dreams come to reality, created jobs for Ugandans and tremendously increased their sales revenue.
